ARMAND'S HARPER VALLEY
MEATS

If you have ever eaten meat from the grocery store and compared it to the meat from homegrown pork or beef, you know there is a big taste difference.

We would like to give you an opportunity to experience the difference. This is not only a chance to have high quality meat, but by buying direct from the producer, there is a big price difference.

How does it work?

First you contact us to let us know what you are interested in. We will then schedule in your order, (Keep in mind we have hogs available year round, but cattle only in late summer.) On the appointment date, we will deliver your hog or cow to the Westport Meat Locker plant. There it will be processed according to your specifications. In a couple of weeks your smoked pork chops, sausage, etc. or T-bone steaks, roasts and hamburger, etc. will be ready for pick-up.

What cuts of pork could I expect to get from a hog?

First of all the hog we deliver should weigh in around 250 lbs. Based on that assumption, you can expect to get about 140 lbs of frozen pork products from a whole hog.

These cuts would include the following* :

Ham, Fresh or Cured

 25.2 lbs.

Loin Roast or Chops

 22.4 lbs.

Bacon

 22.4 lbs.

Spareribs

   4.2 lbs.

Shoulder Butt Roasts, chops

 11.2 lbs.

How much will a hog cost?

We will try to deliver a hog that is close to 250 lbs. For a limited time, the price for the live hog will be approx. $150.00 plus processing fees. The processing fees at the Westport Locker vary according to how your pork is prepared. Generally, it should be approximately $100.00 - $125.00. So you can expect the total cost of the hog, including processing to be about $250.00 - $275.00. We accept payments made by cash or by check for the live animal. You will need to pay the Westport Meat Locker for the butcher cuts.

What cuts of beef can I expect to get?

Cows weigh a lot more than hogs. We usually butcher when their live weigh is around 1300 lbs. give or take a couple of hundred pounds. Our next group of steers for butcher should be ready in August. Please keep in mind that these are live animals and the weights and timing can vary. We prefer to sell steers in whole or half quantities. If you do not wish to have a whole steer, we will put your name on a list till we can find another buyer for the other half.

For this example, we will use a half of a steer. A side of beef should weigh about 390 lbs. (780 lb. carcass).

The cuts for a side of beef that can be expected include the following*:

T-bone, club steaks

 26.6 lbs.

Sirloin Steaks, Roasts

 22.8 lbs.
